Strategic Leadership Coaching
Leadership coaching is all about learning and change. Once the privilege of a few, leadership coaching has become big business today. And as with any other business, continues to evolve.
As a coach, I have come to regard coaching as humbling experience. The feeling of being entrusted with the inner most thoughts, fears, aspirations, doubts, worries and hopes of others leaves me equally proud and responsible. I am struck by the commonality of each person’s felt uniqueness, the opportunity to see first hand, up close and personal, the fascinating mosaic of humankind. Much has been written about the increasing use of leadership coaching, its cost and potential return on investment. It is my experience and belief strategic leadership coaching helps raise the performance bar for individuals and organizations.
Leadership is a relationship. It is both art and science. Coaching sessions provide the unique opportunity to dialogue and explore experiences and perspectives. It is an opportunity to challenge and be challenged. Paradigms and blind spots are surfaced. New knowledge and behaviors replace those that don’t work well anymore. Coaching provides just in time learning.
The most successful coaching programs share some common attributes. They are not stand- alone, ad hoc activities but rather development initiatives embedded in the very fabric of the business. Senior management is deeply involved and line managers are evaluated and promoted expressly for their contributions to the organization-wide effort. Best in class coaching programs align with organizational objectives, culture, metrics, and other leadership development activities.
Leadership is Action, NOT Position
